Chocolate Waffles

A dessert waffle to cap off the waffle menu, yes? The waffle itself isn’t particularly sweet, which is why you can load it with you favourite things. Me? I kept it fairly simple and only added salted caramel and fresh strawberries with a light sprinkle of powdered sugar on top. But whipped cream, ice cream, chocolate sauce and more fresh berries and fruit? Just throw it on and enjoy a crisp waffle.

CHOCOLATE WAFFLES
10 BELGIAN WAFFLES

150 G FLOUR
20 G COCOA POWDER
40 G SUGAR
1 TSP. BAKING POWDER
½ TSP. BAKING SODA
½ TSP. SALT
215 ML BUTTERMILK
45 G BUTTER
1 M/L EGG, DIVIDED

Mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl.

Melt the butter and let it cool of slightly, so it is not too hot.

Whisk the butter together with the buttermilk.

Stir the egg yolk into the buttermilk.

Whisk the egg white to stiff peakes.

Heat up your waffle iron.

Mix the wet ingredients with the dry until you have a batter without lumps. The batter will be slightly thick, but just wait until the eeg whites are added.

Gently fold the egg whites into the batter.

Butter the waffle iron, you only need to do this once.

Use about ½ dl. batter for each finished waffle.

Bake the waffles 3-5 min.

And serve with you favourite sweet condiments.
